Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet

The Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet is all about losing one pound every day for twenty-one days. Basically you’re not allowed to eat anything solid. You can only drink herbal teas and juices, which supply glucose to your body, thus ensuring that you don’t starve yourself for the sake of weight loss.

This diet was brought to the media’s attention in recent times because it is supposedly the diet of choice for Angelina Jolie in her new movie Salt, which caused her to collapse during shooting. Apparently, she needed to lose the pounds to morph her body into that of a man’s, for when her character is in disguise.

Obviously, Jolie does not need to lose any weight, even if she needed to realistically adopt the male frame, so this diet worked against her. With her character doing all that running and hiding, her body probably needed more carbohydrates than usual, and her undergoing the juice fast merely served to hasten the inevitable crash.

For those who do need to go on a diet, and are robust enough for the Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet, here is the Martha’s Vineyard Detox Diet daily schedule, straight from their website.

Acai Berry Detox

Enter the acai berry, touted new detox wonder kid. What is it, where does it come from, does the acai berry detox exist and is it really effective in reducing weight?

Acai Berries

Acai Berries

The acai berry comes from the Açaí palm, a plant that is native to tropical Central and South America. The acai fruit is small, round and purple in color. It is similar to a grape, but less fibrous.

The acai fruit is most popular in Brazil, where it its juice and pulp are used in fruit juices, smoothies, sodas, ice cream, and even liquor.

To the rest of the world, however, acai berries are mostly viewed as a prized health supplement. The acai berry is said to improve sexual performance, increase energy and aid digestion. Acai berries are also said to cleans the body of toxins and enhance weight loss.

Although there have been no studies proving that the acai berry is effective in either body detox or weight loss, it is known that the acai berry is an antioxidant. However, its antioxidant rating is medium, meaning that fruits such as mango, strawberry and grape are better antioxidants than the acai berry.

In conclusion, the acai berry may detoxify the body somewhat, but there is no evidence of its role in weight loss. Its emergence as the new ingredient for detoxification is, sadly, merely hype. In any case, it is a healthy and nutritious fruit that is tasty, fun, exotic and harmless. So if you’re eating it, enjoy it.

Eat Fruits for a Balanced Diet

  1. Avoid extremes. (Don’t blindly follow celebrity detox diets. Check your budget first and start slow. For example, drinking more water. Manage your lifestyle such that it will support your detox style.)
  2. Have a “detox focus” periodically. (Take up a detox schedule. Plan before your start.)
  3. Make sure your nutrient intake is optimal. (Don’t detox by depriving your body of vitamins and nutrients. These are important in removing toxins from your body. Ensure your body gets enough vitamins C, E and B complex. Don’t forget minerals too, such as zinc, magnesium and selenium.)
  4. Seek professional advice for special conditions. (Consult your doctor before going on a detox diet.)
  5. Take it slow. (Adapt your lifestyle to detoxifying gradually. Don’t do things in a rush.)

This is a round-up of the Huffington Post article that lists five simple ways of detoxifying your body. Read the entire article here [link].
